Commonwealth Baton Arrives in Leicester

The Queens Baton Relay arrived today in Leicester on its tour of the country ahead of next months Commonwealth games in Glasgow.

The clock tower was a buzz of excitement this morning as crowds gathered to watch the arrival of the Queens baton in Leicester.  The baton was carried by Trevor Low and Cherie D’Silva and was greeted by over 100 school children, the Lord Mayor and Claire Lomas, who completed the London Marathon in a robotic suit in 2012 after breaking her back in a riding accident.

The baton then went on to Abbey park where volunteer Mike Smith and Leicestershire cricketer Shiv Thakor carried the baton to a school sports day with 300 children.
