Fire crews were called to East Park Road’s Guru Teg Bahadur Gurdwara at approximately 11.15am.
Hundreds of people were present in the temple at the time of the fire.
Sirinder Pal Rai, general secretary at the Guru Teg Bahadur Gurdwara tells us that “there’s no injuries, no really major damage either, but at the same time, there was a fire and it is of a concern to us.”
“We’re going to investigate along with the fire brigade to see what’s happened. At the moment, we can’t really say too much.”
Sirinder was at home when the blaze erupted at the Sikh temple. “I managed to get down within a few minutes,” he recalls.
“At the time of the fire there was a lot of people evacuated and the fire brigade was here, then I had to liaise with the fire brigade from the time I got here till just now.”
With three or four hundred people present in the temple at the time of the outbreak, everyone is thankful that no injuries have been sustained.
