Golden Mile Shopping Festival Returns for Another Year

Leicester’s Golden Mile will commence its famous shopping festival today.  The 10 day event will feature a range of special offers and discounts, attracting not only local shoppers but also those from nationwide.

The Golden Mile is the name given to the area of the city incorporating both Belgrave and Melton Road.  The area is famous for its seasonal lights and its Diwali celebrations which this year has already attracted nearly 35,000 people this year.

The festival will feature over 60 businesses from eating places to clothing and jewellery stores.  This year has attracted a range of new business, building on the success from previous years. The festival has shown to really help boost trade, which over two years ago was struggling due to repeated robberies. The chairman of the Belgrave Business Association, Dhamesh Lakhani asserts that since the festivals start “it has gone from strength to strength”.  As well it also appeals to a range of different communities as well encompassing the spirit of the area.

The event will be hosting a free range of activities and entertainment throughout, as well as a chance for the festival goers to see what special discounts are on offer in advance on the Golden Mile website.  Business owner Vik Sethi upholds that not only is the festival “to become a landmark in the UK” but also that it creates a “big buzz in the city.”
