Gym offers discount prices for smoking quitters

Blaby District Council

Residents of the Blaby District in Leicestershire who have quit smoking for at least four weeks are being offered discounted prices from the Pavilion Leisure Centre.

The offer is being run in collaboration with Quit Ready Leicestershire, the County Council’s stop smoking service as they aim to make more local people smoke-free.

The leisure centre is offering 200 free one-day passes and personal training taster sessions.

Then, if people decide the gym is something they wish to do regularly, a 20% reduction on a gym membership is offered regarding they have quit – costing £21.60 a month. The joining fee is also being halved to £10.

There is a discounted annual payment option, whereby a fee of £216 will grant a recent quitter 12 months access for the price of 10 months.

Councillor Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Health Improvement, Leisure and Regulatory Services, hopes the offers will encourage recent quitter to stay healthy.

“We want to give the maximum amount of help to those who are quitting smoking by improving their overall health and our taster sessions and free passes will help people get a taste of the healthy lifestyle they can enjoy,” said Councillor Ian Hewson.

Zaheera Chatra, Quit Ready’s Service Manager, said:

“It’s our chance to make those New Year resolutions  permanent and to give people the best chances of quitting smoking and  take advantage of the burst of energy they will feel if they stop smoking for good!”
