Hindu Community Celebrate Prince George’s Birth

Dozens of members of Leicester’s Hindu community gathered on Belgrave Road, to formally celebrate the birth of Prince George of Cambridge.

In the Hindu religion, the sixth day of a baby’s birth is when the God of Destiny writes the fate of the infant. Vinod Popat, Chairman of the British Hindu Voice organised the event on Saturday, which marked the sixth day of Prince George’s birth, in order to celebrate the newly born future King.

Also in attendance of the ceremony was Lady Gretton, the Queen’s representative for Leicestershire saying “It’s lovely there are now three heirs in success for the thrown and the monarchy will continue.”

Having said the traditional prayers, Vinod then gave a special message of congratulations to the new parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “Many congratulations from the Hindu community as well as the whole of Leicestershire.”

Lady Gretton praised the event saying “I think the whole country is celebrating this wonderful birth and it’s just wonderful that all the communities can get together and celebrate something as special as this.”
