The first is for Sustainable Salon of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards. The category, sponsored by Authentic Beauty Concept, is new for 2022 and has been launched in response to the overwhelming changes being made in hairdressing by forward-thinking salons, like Mewies & Co.

The British Hairdressing Business Awards – now in their 24th year – recognises the hardworking names and often unsung-heroes that build the salon businesses that are so central to communities and high streets across the country. From standout salons and exemplary teams to groundbreaking innovations and trailblazing individuals, HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards are a celebration of business brilliance.

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of the British Hairdressing Business Awards says: “To make the Sustainable Salon of the Year shortlist, finalists need to show that they put sustainability at the forefront of their business and are making real, impactful changes. Dan, Jemma and all the team at Mewies & Co. should feel proud to be recognised for their contribution to the industry.”

The second finalist place for the Mewies & Co. team is for Green Salon of the Year, sponsored by KAO Salon Division, at the 2022 Salon Business Awards.

The Salon Business awards have been celebrating the best in the business for the last 8 years, rewarding exceptional talent across the UK, at all levels of the hairdressing industry. Judged by highly respected industry professionals, these awards are a fantastic celebration of business savvy stylists and salon teams.

Joanne Charlton, Publishing Editor at Salon Business says: ‘We had a record number of entries this year, making it clear that salons up and down the UK are making a conscious effort towards sustainability and to improve their impact on the environment – which is fantastic to see. To finalise in such a prominent category is exceptional and all the team at Mewies & Co. should be very proud.”

Mewies & Co. made the final stage of each of these prestigious awards after compiling detailed entries outlining why sustainability is important for their business and how they have introduced initiatives, product partners and suppliers for a greener salon environment. They also shared the numbers and insights to back up their changes, proving how these measures have positively impacted their business and client experience.

Salon co-owner, Dan Mewies says: “We are thrilled to have made the finals of not one, but two respected industry award events. As a salon team we are committed to our ethos and values, and have actively made a difference to dramatically change the way we do things – not only within the salon through our salon interior and product partners, but also through client education and investments like our product refill bar. To be recognised for all the hard work we have put so far is fantastic, and just the fuel we need to keep working on our sustainable mission. As a team, we appreciate there is always more to do and more to learn, and we are always looking for new eco-friendly ways to work, new sustainable approaches to consider and things we can do to make a difference beyond the salon walls too. I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a business so far and of the positive impact we have made. We can’t wait to celebrate at the finals!”

Winners will be announced at the Salon Business Awards on Monday, June 12 at Quaglinos, in Mayfair London and at HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards on Monday, July 4 at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, to an audience of some of the industry’s most prolific names.
