Indian Sufi singer Harshdeep Kaur is set to return to the city, for her first solo performance live at the Demontfort Hall in Leicester, with a supporting performance by Nagesh Burbure on Friday 4th of July 2014.
Speaking exclusively to Pukaar News, she shared her excitement of returning to the city: “This will be my second performance in Leicester, but my first solo performance. I was there two years back, when I performed with Adnan Sami. I love the city and the drive from London to Leicester was really beautiful, it was then I thought that I must come back to the city to perform”.
With a passion for music, the Sufi singer began performing from a young age and reached fame when she won the singing competition Junoon – Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka on NDTV Imagine in 2008. She was then declared the ‘Sufi Ki Sultana’ (the Queen of Sufi) by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who was the chief guest in the Grand Finale.
Speaking about her musical inspirations she shared: “There are many singers that I really look up to like Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Saab, A R Rahman, Pritam’s music is amazing, Reshma ji, Lata ji and all the amazing singers, I try to grasp the best from them”.
With over 28 Bollywood hits to her name including: ‘Ik Onkar’ from Rang De Basanti, ‘Baari Barsi’ from Band Baaja Baaraat and ‘Heer’ from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The Bollywood playback singer shared: “All of my songs have been important to me in my career, but the one song that really made a difference and got the attention of everybody was ‘Katiya Karu’ from Rockstar. It became really very popular and people know me for that song”.
The singing sensation is set mesmerize the audience with her Sufi classics and Bollywood hits, offering her fans an amazing night to remember: “I’m looking forward to singing my own favourite songs as well as some of the audiences favourite songs, I can guarantee it will be a very memorable concert”.
Speaking to Pukaar News, Director of Rock on Music, Vijay Bhola, shared: “Having had a range of Bollywood artists performing in Leicester, it will be great to have Harshdeep Kaur perform live and entertain the audience and her fans in the city next week”.
