CHRISTMAS EVENTS IN LEICESTER THIS WEEKEND

Christmas arrives at two Leicester City Council museums this weekend, with special events taking place at both the Guildhall and the Abbey Pumping Station.

Saturday (2 December) sees the return of the popular Christmas Craft Fair to the city’s medieval Guildhall.

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of the 600-year-old building, the fair will showcase the work of local artists and makers, with a wide range of stalls selling handmade arts, crafts and gift ideas.

Mince pies, mulled wine and hot food from Pick’s Organic Farm will also be available.

The Guildhall Christmas Craft Fair runs from 11am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday (2-3 December). Admission is £1 for adults, with no charge for children.

Also taking place this weekend is a Christmas Steam Day at the Abbey Pumping Station.

The event on Sunday (3 December) will be an opportunity to see one of the magnificent Gimson beam engines in steam and to enjoy some Christmas carols, accompanied by a live band.

The cafe will be open for a warming mince pie and the narrow gauge railway will be running (additional small charge for train rides).

Admission to the family-friendly Christmas Steam Day – which runs from 1pm-5pm on Sunday – is £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for children/concessions and £8 for a family ticket.
