First Indian Shopping Festival to take place in London

Around 50 exhibitors, including many from India will be showcasing their Indian inspired brands at a unique shopping festival taking place in London.

The India Week Shopping Festival, which will take place at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel, is described as the ‘ultimate fashion and shopping extravaganza for all the family’. It is free to attend.

Taking place on July 5 and 6, the show will feature over 50 shopping stalls, featuring lifestyle, fashion, jewellery, real estate and more from the UK and India.

It will also boast a live catwalk show featuring the latest fashion trends and a special exhibition of legendary Bollywood actor Dev Anand’s work. A Film Conclave, featuring producers and film industry veterans from the UK and India will also take place as part of the festival.

Speaking ahead of the event, organiser Pratik Dattani told Pukaar that it could attract up to 1,000 people over the course of two days, exposing the work of talented artisans, many of which are flying over from India.

“This kind of event is great for things like the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of Culture over in India. It’s designed to promote some of the Indian artisans who don’t necessarily get a big opportunity to go abroad and get international exposure,” he said. “For many it’ll be the first time they’ve left India to exhibit their work. It’s also an opportunity to introduce a UK audience to some unique Asian handicrafts, textiles and old cloth weaving techniques from India. Hopefully it’ll be a unique and rewarding experience all around, which I’m very much looking forward to!”

The shopping festival is taking place as part of a programme of events planned as part of India Week (29 June – 06 July).
