Rainbow Flag Raised in Leicester to Mark LGBT History Month

The Rainbow Flag was raised in Leicester on Monday by Councillor Manjula Sood to mark the beginning of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month.  February is a national month of significance for the LGBT community, and they celebrate historic figures, as well as striving to raise awareness of the discrimination that still exists today.

The flag-raising took place at Leicester Town Hall, and was attended by representatives from Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire County Council, De Montfort University, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

In raising the Rainbow Flag, and flying it for a week, this demonstrates the support shown by Leicester City Council, and their partners, and their dedication to creating a society where everyone has decent human rights, regardless of their sexuality. By highlighting the importance of LGBT History Month through this visual display of solidarity, it is hoped that hate crimes will be eradicated and negative attitudes with be changed.
