Parents of special educational needs children worried over potential transport changes

Parents of special educational needs children from across Leicestershire are worried that potential changes to their transport could see them unable to attend college.

Leicestershire County Council have released a consultation period with parents who can share their views with the council on the cuts which has some parents worried.

The potential changes to the transport of special needs education children are:

  • Reducing the level of discount available to children and young people from low income families for transport to nursery and post 16 education.
  • To stop offering council arranged taxis and minibuses to transport SEN students to post 16 education and offer a Personal Transport Budget instead.

Parent Kyra Williams , said:

“These changes are going to have a massive effect on our family.

“If we lose that bus service, it means I’m going to have to take her to school which means I could lose my job,” Kyra explained.
