ATHENA HOPES TO MULTIPLY BUSINESS FOLLOWING NATIONAL PRIZE

Popular Leicester-based venue Athena is celebrating after scooping second prize at a national 2017 awards event.

Flying the flag high for the county, Athena was the only venue outside central London to be shortlisted in the Best Venue category. Recipients were presented with accolades following a review by an independent panel of experts from the UK Awards sector.

Speaking about the win, Athena’s events manager Hira Ram, said: “To win silver is just fantastic for us. This is great for both ourselves and Leicester as we hope with this award under our belts, we can attract even more national awards ceremonies to the city.”

The venue opened its doors to the public in 2005 and has since hosted a string of lavish events over the years, including the National Dentistry Awards, National House Builders Council – Pride In The Job, Midlands Business Awards, Halfords Dinner and Conference, National Tribute Awards and more.

More recently, it was selected as the glittering backdrop for the prestigious Leicester Curry Awards, which attracted UK-wide media attention both pre and post the event. Founder of the Leicester Curry Awards Romail Gulzar, said: “Athena was the perfect choice for us. It’s placed right in the centre of the city, with great facilities and a friendly and professional team that helped ensure our event was a success.”

Commenting on the popularity of the venue with corporate clients, Hira added: “Athena differs from other venues in the industry by offering all services in-house, allowing the venue to maintain control over quality, resulting in excellent customer service.”

The inaugural awards ceremony took place at Plaisterers Hall in London on Friday 12 May and was organised by Global Conference Network in a bid to celebrate the very best in the awards industry.

Looking ahead to the venue’s immediate future, Athena will be hosting the Leicestershire Law Society Awards Dinner and England Hockey Awards this weekend.
