Some 35,000 people will be heading to the festival each day, making it Radio 2’s biggest live music event outside of London.

Kylie Minogue, has been confirmed as the headline act on Sunday’s bill, with performances by Sam Ryder, Jessie Ware and Rick Astley also due to delight audiences on the day. Shalamar, Simply Red Lemar and the Pretenders are also set to grace the stage.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on this morning’s breakfast show, Kylie said: “To be joining all these amazing acts on stage in September is just going to be a blast. I have already been hitting up their playlists and I’m gonna be just fan girling for two days and then try and get my act together to headline on Sunday.

“It will have been some time since I’ve done a performance like this so I’m beyond excited.”

The last time Kylie played at Victoria Park was in September 2001, when she performed as parr of Radio 1’s ‘1 Big Sunday’.

On the Sunday ‘Tears for Fears’ will be the headline act, with other acts including Bananarama, Texas, James Blunt, Beverley Knight, Busted, Deacon Blue and Soft Cell.

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith of Tears for Fears said: “We love playing live and can’t wait to bring some of our favourite songs, old and new, to thousands of Radio 2 listeners.”

The festival will be BBC Radio 2’s first flagship event since before the pandemic.

Jeff Smith, Head of Music for Radio 2, says: “Radio 2 is proud to play a huge range of timeless, melodic music, in fact around 16,000 different songs, from pop to rock, soul to folk, are played across the station each year. We’re thrilled to reveal Radio 2 in the Park is coming to Leicester, bringing a stellar line-up of artists who have had hits in the past six decades, and who between them have sold over 250 million records and had 250 UK Top 40 hits! We can’t wait to bring our listeners and presenting family together for an unforgettable weekend of live music.”
