Richard III Inspires World Record Attempt at Curve

curve thumb tallCurve are inviting the Leicestershire community to help break its first ever Guinness World Record at its 5th Birthday Open Day on Saturday 7 September.

The record will see ‘The Most Number of People Wearing Paper Crowns’, inspired by Leicester’s world-famous discovery of Richard III in the car park last year.

The current record stands at 749 people, and was achieved by the Pangbourne Village Fete in Berkshire on 9 June 2012, but the Leicester theatre is hoping to hit over 1,000 people.

To break the existing record, the participants will have to wear a paper crown for a full 5 minutes.  Participants can get creative and make and decorate their own handmade crowns out of paper or card or alternatively crowns will be available at Curve on the day of the record attempt.

During the record attempt, Curve will also be staging Leicester’s largest ever mass reading of the iconic opening speech from William Shakespeare’s ‘Richard III’ during the record breaking moment.

The theatre is also encouraging participants to join the fun and come dressed up with wigs, cloaks and other Richard III inspired costumes for the family friendly event.

curve 03 thumb tall 02Curve’s Chief Executive, Fiona Allan, commented:  “Everyone across Leicestershire has been inspired by the discovery of Richard III here in our city and this record breaking moment is our way of marking this moment of Leicester’s history in our 5th Birthday celebrations. The record we are attempting to break currently stands at 749 people, but we know that our community can do even better! So, if you want to be able to tell all your friends and family that you are a world record holder – come to join in the fun.”

Crowns will also be available from 19 August from Curve Ticket Office at the theatre, Curve’s Kiosk at Highcross, Visit Leicester and the Open Centre at BBC Radio Leicester.

To join the attempt, participants need to be Curve at 10am in order to be in their seats ready for the official headcount and mass reading at 10.30am.
