Showaddywaddy to put on epic homecoming show in Leicester

Leicester’s legendary ‘Showaddywaddy’ will perform at De Montfort Hall later this month as part of their epic 50th anniversary tour.

Formed in Leicester in 1973, the group was an amalgamation of two local bands; Choise and Golden Hammers.

This year marks 50 years since they released their first single ‘Hey Rock and Roll,’ which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart. Showaddywaddy then hit the UK charts another 22 times until late 1982, nine being top-5 singles, including four #2s and one #1, racking up a total of 209 weeks in the singles chart – one of the most successful singles groups of all time.

They have sold 20 million records and tour all over the world.

A spokesman for De Montfort Hall, which will host Showaddywaddy on April 20, hailed them ‘the greatest rock and roll band in the world’.

“The greatest rock and roll band in the world is a bold statement, but Showaddywaddy have lived up to that title for the last five decades!” they said.

“Their 50th Anniversary show will be dynamic and uplifting, featuring all their greatest hits, many of which reached number one in the pop charts across Europe; Under The Moon of Love, Three Steps to Heaven, Hey Rock and Roll, When, Blue Moon, Pretty Little Angel Eyes and many, many more.

“So come and join the Dancin’ Party… You’ve Got What It Takes!”

Drummer, Romeo Challenger, is the only remaining original member from 1973 that still performs in the group.

Andy Pelos (vocals and guitar), David Graham (guitar and saxophone), Tom Bull (bass), Billy Shannon (guitar and vocals) and Sam Holland (guitar and drums) make up the rest of the current band.
