Clintons Cards, which has operated in the town’s High street since July 2003, will serve its last customers tomorrow at 5.30pm (Saturday, January 22).

Four members of staff will be affected by the closure.

A spokesman for Clinton told Pukaar News that the difficult decision was made to close the store after finding that renewing its lease wasn’t an option which was cost effective.

“We are working hard to secure a new unit in the Market Harborough area, as cost prohibitive lease renewal terms forced us to take the difficult decision to close the current store,” they said.

“Our staff have been informed and we have offered to redeploy staff members to local Clintons stores or help them find suitable alternatives. In the meantime, we want to ensure the community has a go-to shop for all its greetings card and gifting requirements.”

However The Clintons closure isn’t the first blow for the Market Harborough high street in recent weeks.

Nearby women’s fashion and jewellery store Monsoon Accessorize closed its doors on January 14, after serving the High Street for ten years.

In Leicester, Clinton Cards operates stores in the city’s Highcross and Fosse Park Shopping Centres.
