Leicester East MP Keith Vaz hosted his 29th annual tea party at the House of Commons on Saturday 9th July. His guest of honour this year was Leicester City Football Club Manager Claudio Ranieri and his wife Rosanna. LCFC Chief Executive Susan Whelan and her husband Robbie Gill also attended.
For the past 28 years Mr Vaz has been holding summer tea parties for all of his family, staff and special guests.
Saturday’s event was a celebration of Leicester City’s tremendous victory, and as well as getting to meet Leicester City’s manager, Mr Vaz and his guests got to see the Premier League Trophy.
Before the tea party Mr Ranieri, Ms Whelan and their families toured Number 10, with the permission of the Prime Minister.
The 85 party guests got to enjoy the sunshine on the House of Commons terrace, overlooking the River Thames with tea, sandwiches and cake. Guests could also help raise money for Silver Star, the diabetes charity Mr Vaz founded in 2007, by taking part in a raffle.
Prizes for the raffle included House of Commons whiskey and chocolate and a giant teddy bear.
Mr Vaz commented on the day’s events. He said: “I was delighted to welcome Claudio Ranieri, his family and colleagues to the House of Commons this weekend. The Prime Minister, David Cameron, was very generous to allow us to tour Number 10.
“People across the United Kingdom were overjoyed at Leicester City Football Club’s Premier League title victory, and Westminster was no exception.
“The day was an opportunity to celebrate this achievement with the architect of Leicester’s historic title win.”
