Slab Laid in Memory of Football Coach Antoin Akpom

A memorial slab was laid down on Saturday in memory of Antoin Akpom, marking the one year anniversary since his funeral.  Anton’s mother, Cheryl Armatrading, stated that the slab was laid “to recognise who he was”.

 

 

On September 12 last year, the 20 year old football coach Antoin Akpom, was stabbed to death in Leicester. The father of one, was attacked on Kent Street, but later died in hospital after suffering a collapsed lung when he was stabbed in the back.

 

19 year old Hussain Hussain was charged with the death of Antoin Akpom, after stabbing Antoin with a kitchen knife during a confrontation.

 

The slab laid to remember Antoin brought back many loving memories said Cheryl Armatrading, “the only thing that keeps us going is trying to keep up the positivity, what he’s done and his good name”.

 

The laying of the memorial slab gave friends and family an opportunity to remember Antoin Akpom and how he helped change the lives of others. Cheryl added; “I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about what Antoin’s done and how it had an impact on peoples lives”.

 

Cheryl plans to set up a foundation to help young people and steer them away from violence and anti-social behaviour. She announced the foundation is to “guide and uphold our young people because they are the future of tomorrow”.
